In the realm of wedding photography, the importance of consultation calls cannot be overstated. Today I talk about the pivotal role these calls play in the success of a wedding photography business, outlining three key reasons and providing valuable insights to enhance client interactions.

Why are consultation calls important for wedding photographers?

1. Understanding Your Clients:

The first big plus of consultation calls? You get to know your clients inside out. These talks let photographers dig into what makes clients tick – their preferences, style, and dreams. With this info in their back pocket, photographers can customize their services, suggest personalized packages, and create an experience that perfectly fits each client’s unique vibe.

2. No luxury photo biz goes without them:

Client who are looking to pay significantly more for their wedding photography WANT to get on a consultation call. If you have an inquiry who refuses to get on the call, 9 times out of 10 they aren’t looking for more than a price comparison, and if you’re charging more…you’re automatically disqualified. Think of requiring consultation calls as a way to pre-qualify people who are inquiring with you and make sure they are committed to getting to know more beyond just the price.

3. Elevating Your Booking Game:

I went from a 10% booking rate to an 80% booking rate when I learned how to approach, show up, and complete a wedding photography consultation call properly. All to say that, if you absolutely suck at them right now…it’s fine, so did I! The most important thing is to learn how to conduct them properly so that you can slowly start to get better and book more and more clients as your expertise grows.

Common Mistakes to Avoid:

Value of Features

A huge mistake is not relaying the true value of what you do. I.E. you don’t sell just photos, you sell memories and art. The difference in your perspective and your approach to your photography is just the beginning, the memories they will have at the end of the experience is another huge distinction. How are you leading with value instead of the logistical features of what you do?

Stop being a carbon copy

In a crowded field of awesome photographers, copying others won’t get you far. This part suggests steering clear of imitating and highlights the need to be distinctive. Let your personality shine because being real and unique creates a connection that goes beyond just the photos.

2 Ways to get more Bookings:

1. Evoke Emotion:

Let’s mix it up a bit – move the chat from just looking at pictures to really diving into the feels. Get clients to picture your photos as part of their own story. When you showcase the photographer’s perspective and storytelling skills, it’s like flipping a switch – suddenly, it’s more than just images; they become these special keepsakes that hold a lot of meaning.

2. Showcase Your Authentic Self:

To shine in a busy market, you gotta let people see the face behind the camera. Use social media, especially Instagram stories, to give folks a peek into your world – the little quirks, what makes you tick, and the things you’re passionate about. Being real like this builds a connection, drawing in clients who vibe with you on a personal level.

To wrap it up, nailing consultation calls is a game-changer for making it big in wedding photography. Understanding their importance, dodging the usual hiccups, and making savvy moves will definitely boost your game in this competitive field. Good luck on your journey, and here’s to your consultation calls capturing loads of magical moments through your lens!
